Dr. Muhammad Junaid Munir, an Australian Distinguished Talent, is an Associate Professor and Master’s supervisor at Jinan University. He has held academic and research positions at leading institutions across Australia, China, Pakistan, and the United States.

 

His research expertise encompasses:

 

· Sustainable Construction Materials: Developing and characterizing eco-friendly construction materials by valorizing industrial by-products and various waste streams such as marble powder, rubber waste, glass powder, fly ash, slag, and sludge. This work focuses on creating low-carbon, high-performance, and durable building materials including concrete, geopolymer mortars, and fired clay bricks.

· Advanced Concrete Technologies: Innovating concrete composites such as rubberized concrete, recycled aggregate concrete, fiber-reinforced composites, and magnesium phosphate cements, with emphasis on enhanced mechanical properties, durability, thermal insulation, and environmental sustainability.

· Artificial Intelligence in Civil Engineering: Applying machine learning and AI-driven predictive modeling to optimize mix designs and forecast the mechanical performance of sustainable and recycled-material-based concretes.

· Structural Engineering: Analyzing, modeling, and designing resilient and sustainable structural systems, including steel-confined recycled aggregate concrete columns, with a focus on integrating novel materials and advanced characterization techniques to improve structural performance and longevity.

 

Dr. Munir has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles published in prestigious international journals such as Resources, Conservation and Recycling, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Cement and Concrete Composites. Five of his publications rank among the top-cited papers in journals including Cement and Concrete Composites, Journal of Building Engineering, and Cold Regions Science and Technology. His research has received over 5,000 citations, and he holds an h-index exceeding 37. He holds two granted patents and has delivered invited presentations at major international conferences in Australia, the Netherlands, Japan, and Pakistan.

 

In editorial capacities, Dr. Munir serves as Associate Editor of the Alexandria Engineering Journal (Elsevier, SCI Q1, IF 6.2) and the Frontiers in Built Environment Journal (Q1, IF 2.2). He is also an editorial board member of several SCI-indexed journals. Additionally, he acts as an international PhD thesis examiner and grant reviewer. Recognized for his expertise in alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR) in concrete, he has been invited as a country lead to contribute to RILEM Technical Committee 301 (TC 301) on Risk Assessment of Concrete Mixtures with Alkali-Silica Reactive (ASR) Aggregates. His contributions support the evaluation of global AAR assessment schemes to enhance international codes and standards. He has reviewed manuscripts for over 90 prestigious international SCI journals.

He is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Pakistan Engineering Council, and is a former guest member of the National Precast Concrete Association (Australia).
